Hydrogen Blend (20%) Range Compatibility Confirmation
Strebel Ltd is pleased to confirm that the following appliances have been tested to run on Natural Gas with a Hydrogen blend of up to 20% volume.
Compliant Products List (all models) to which this applies are:
• Commercial Boiler Ranges : S-CB+, S-CBX, S-FX and S-AF
• Water Heater Ranges : S-WG, ATI-SPX
These ranges will be marked up with the new ICOM* released ‘Hydrogen 20% Blend’ logo which has been designed and launched to designate this level of Hydrogen blend compatibility.

For cast iron boilers that have been supplied with a third party supplied burner then confirmation of hydrogen blend compatibility should be sought from the burner manufacturer.
For discontinued boilers, such as the S-HQ boiler range, we are unable to confirm hydrogen blend compatibility.
Please note that ‘Hydrogen 20% Blend’ does not mean that the unit is ‘Hydrogen Ready’ – as this will require a conversion, most likely including a change of internal parts and a subsequent re-commissioning, to enable the boiler to run on Hydrogen only. In the case that a unit requires a change of internal parts and recommissioning then it would be prudent to check the costs of these required parts before purchase and, also, that the unit will offer the same output and performance when fired in Hydrogen as it does on either Natural Gas or a 20% Hydrogen Blend.
It is not known when Hydrogen will begin to be blended into the National Grid, although it is generally considered that this will probably start in the first half of this decade. It is also not known what the actual Hydrogen blend amount will be when this does occur – although it will not be over 20%. The Department of Business and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) have also indicated in their Heat and Buildings Strategy, published in October 2021, that it will not make a further strategic commitment on the overall role of Hydrogen, especially considering the potential role of 100% pure Hydrogen, before 2026**.
